(DCWatchdog.com) – Almost all likely voters in the primaries of the Republican Party prefer a presidential candidate who would fight the far-left woke ideology, a new public opinion poll has found.
The survey by pro-left pollsters CBS News and YouGov discovered that 85% of the potential GOP primary voters want the 2024 presidential nominee of their party to challenge “woke” ideas, Newsmax reported.
According to the poll’s findings, 59% of the likely Republican primary voters believe that former President Donald Trump will do just that, while 24% think that Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis will be the right person who would tackle wokeists.
Three other candidates for the 2024 presidential nomination of the Republican Party were each chosen by 4% of the respondents as the bidder who will take on woke ideas.
These are former Ambassador to the United Nations and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, author and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Vice President Mike Pence.
As per the survey results, two-thirds – or 66% – of likely GOP primary voters are convinced that things in the United States are going either “somewhat badly” or “very badly.”
At the same time, only 34% of Republicans say things are going “very well” or “somewhat well.”
A plurality of the GOP respondents – 32% – view the economy as the central issue in the 2024 presidential competition, while 13% consider that to be democracy and election issues.
Another 11% of the likely Republican primary voters see healthcare as the top election issue, and 10% think it is gun policy.
Regarding voting for any of the 2024 GOP nomination candidates, 58% say they will support former President Trump in their state’s primary.
Florida’s Governor DeSantis will be chosen by 22%, while former Vice President Pence and entrepreneur Ramaswamy receive 5% support each.
None of the other candidates polled above 5% in this survey, including Nikki Haley, who in other polls comes ahead of Ramaswamy and even Mike Pence.
Among the reasons for voting for Trump, 94% chose his past performance as president of the United States in 2017-2021. Also, 94% say they support him “because he fights for people like me.”
Slightly fewer, 84% of the GOP primary respondents, say they will choose Trump because he can beat President Joe Biden.
The CBS and YouGov poll was conducted between April 27 and April 29 among 2,352 American adults. For Republican primary voters, it has a margin of error of 5.4%.
