GOP Congressman: Trump’s Claims about 2020 Presidential Election ‘Always a Lie’

GOP Congressman Dan Crenshaw

( – Republican US Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas has declared that the claims the 2020 election was “stolen” from former President Donald Trump through widespread voter fraud were “always a lie.”

Crenshaw, a former US Navy SEAL who lost an eye in Afghanistan, was previously pro-Trump. After the 2020 presidential election, he even supported a lawsuit in Texas that disputed the official results.

However, since then, he has criticized those who assert that Joe Biden won the last presidential election through massive voter fraud.

“It was always a lie. The whole thing was always a lie. And it was a lie meant to rile people up,” Crenshaw declared on his Hold These Truths podcast while speaking with Nick Troiano, an electoral reform advocate.

The US Representative for Texas’ 2nd Congressional District lashed out against those who “push” the “‘Trump is a victim’ story.”

He argued that pro-Trump Republican lawmakers admitted to him “behind closed doors” they were well aware that claims about the stole 2020 election weren’t true but kept maintaining them as a political stunt.

“I’ve talked about this ad nauseam, it really made me angry. Because I’m like, the promises you’re making that you’re gonna challenge the electoral college and overturn the election, there’s not even a process for you to do that. It doesn’t even exist,” Crenshaw commented.

“So I was like, ‘What the hell are we doing?’ And I would tell that to people kinda behind closed doors too. Especially a lot of the rabble-rousers, like the political personalities, not even the politicians,” the Texas Republican elaborated.

He dwelled on how the senior GOP figures who supported Trump’s election denial were using the voter fraud story to energize their voters.

“They’re like, ‘Yeah, we know that, but we just, you know, people just need their last hurrah. Like, they just need to feel like we fought one last time. Trust me, it’ll be fine,” Crenshaw alleged.

“And I was like, ‘No, it won’t. That’s not what people believe, and that’s not what you’re telling them. And maybe you’re smart enough to know that but like…,'” the former US Navy SEAL said.

“We have a lot of people in the political world that are just willing to say things they know aren’t true, they know aren’t true. It’s a huge manipulation,” the Texas congressman insisted.
