(DCWatchdog.com) – As the shadow of cyber threats from Communist China grows darker, FBI Director Christopher Wray has sounded the alarm on the massive cyber threats from the Chinese government, focusing on the hacking group known as Volt Typhoon.
Our nation’s energy and communication systems are at risk, and the once distant threat has now become an overwhelming concern.
The urgency for robust protective measures has never been more pressing as this menace evolves with AI-driven precision.
Volt Typhoon has infiltrated crucial U.S. infrastructure sectors, including communications, energy, and water.
Their ability to disrupt services like heating, air conditioning, and data servers underscores the severity of their reach.
Since 2021, Volt Typhoon has exploited vulnerabilities in networks protected by Fortinet’s FortiGuard devices.
These hackers use outdated routers to avoid detection and escalate access, persisting in IT environments for over five years, Heritage reports.
Craig Huey, an AI expert, highlights a concerning 30% increase in cyberattacks on U.S. critical infrastructure, affecting electric grids, oil pipelines, transportation, and telecommunications.
This trend emphasizes the urgency for heightened vigilance and robust defenses, WND notes in a report.
“Although countless “bad players” are involved, communist China tops the list,” says Huey.
The Justice Department’s disruption of a Chinese botnet last December highlights the extensive range of these cyber intrusions.
Moody’s has described critical infrastructure assets as “credit negative” due to existing cyber vulnerabilities.
FBI efforts to counter these intrusions include disrupting cyber threats, removing malicious code, and preventing reinfections.
As cyberattacks rise, with a 56% increase year-over-year in the U.S., the need to implement robust measures to defend against these cyber threats becomes more urgent.
“FBI Director Christopher Wray agrees, expressing in April that the Chinese government is a ‘broad and unrelenting’ threat to the U.S.,” the report points out.
It is critical that our nation heeds these warnings and implements necessary defenses to safeguard against cyber threats from China, ensuring our security and protecting our critical infrastructure from these relentless attacks.
