(DCWatchdog.com) – The FBI Agents Association (FBIAA) slammed former President Joe Biden’s last-minute decision to commute the sentence of Leonard Peltier, a convicted cop killer responsible for the brutal murders of two FBI agents.
The association called it a “last-second, disgraceful act” that releases a remorseless killer from prison.
Peltier, now 80, was convicted of murdering FBI Special Agents Jack Coler and Ronald Williams during a 1975 incident on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. He has served nearly 50 years behind bars for his heinous crimes.
“This commutation will enable Mr. Peltier to spend his remaining days in home confinement but will not pardon him for his underlying crimes,” Biden stated.
Biden’s decision allows Peltier to serve the remainder of his sentence in home confinement, effectively granting him freedom despite the severity of his actions.
This move not only disrespects the memory of the fallen agents but also sends a dangerous message about the value of law enforcement lives in today’s society.
Former FBI Director Christopher Wray had vehemently opposed the commutation, emphasizing the gravity of Peltier’s crimes.
Wray stated:
“Peltier is a remorseless killer, who brutally murdered two of our own–Special Agents Jack Coler and Ronald Williams. Granting Peltier any relief from his conviction or sentence is wholly unjustified and would be an affront to the rule of law.”
The FBIAA echoed Wray’s sentiments, expressing their outrage at Biden’s decision.
They stated, “It is a cruel betrayal to the families and colleagues of these fallen Agents and is a slap in the face of law enforcement.”
This commutation not only disregards the pain and suffering of the victims’ families but also undermines the hard work and sacrifices made by law enforcement officers every day.
Adding insult to injury, Biden announced this commutation alongside pardons for five of his own family members, raising questions about his priorities and judgment.
The timing and nature of these decisions suggest a disregard for the rule of law and a concerning pattern of putting personal interests above justice.
While leftist activists and some members of Congress have advocated for Peltier’s release, citing alleged prosecutorial misconduct, the evidence of his guilt remains substantial.
Peltier’s violent actions, including his escape from federal prison in 1979, demonstrate a pattern of disregard for the law and human life.
Furthermore, the commutation still allows a convicted murderer to enjoy freedom while the families of Agents Coler and Williams continue to suffer the permanent loss of their loved ones.
The FBIAA has vowed to work with new leadership in Washington, D.C., to ensure that criminals and cop killers remain behind bars where they belong.
Supporters of Peltier claim he suffers significant health issues, arguing that his release addresses humanitarian concerns.
Despite these claims, the FBIAA maintains a firm stance that his commutation represents a broader failure to ensure justice for law enforcement and their families.
