(DCWatchdog.com) – Democrat activists have taken a direct aim at Joe Rogan. They have called for boycotting his Spotify podcast after the comedian urged Americans to vote for the GOP in the upcoming elections last week.
On last Saturday’s episode of his $200 million Spotify podcast, Rogan and his guest, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, discussed what they said were needlessly stringent COVID-19 pandemic restrictions imposed on the American public by Democrat politicians.
Because of those Democrat “errors” in the management of the coronavirus pandemic, as he put it, Rogan recommended that Americans “vote Republican” in the November midterms.
“I hope there’s lessons learned in this because this is a new thing. We had never had this before. No one that was alive today had ever experienced a true pandemic, and I’m hoping that now that this is over, people are going to recognize that some serious errors were made and not repeat those,” the popular podcaster declared.
He and Rodgers said Democrat governors and state legislatures slapped heavy-handed lockdowns and shutdowns on the economy, schools, and public life.
They also criticized the double standards of many high-profile Democrats, such as California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom. He sat unmasked in a restaurant after his administration had banned indoor dining.
“As far as compensation for all of those people that were forced to close their businesses and keep their doors shuttered and lost everything they had worked for decades to build — no, they’re just going to be angry,” Rogan quipped alongside his call to vote for the GOP.
These comments have now earned the libertarian comedian the ire of Democrat activists, with Occupy Democrats, a group with nearly half a million followers on Twitter, blasting him for supporting the Republican Party when it is becoming “fascist.”
“[Rogan] was ignorantly urg[ing] Americans [to vote Republican] as a form of supposed payback for businesses closing down due to the pandemic — dangerous rhetoric as the GOP embraces full fascism,” Occupy Democrats tweeted.
“If you support a boycott of Spotify until they drop Joe Rogan’s podcast … please retweet and follow us!” the group urged, with its post receiving thousands of retweets and reactions.
In the same episode of his podcast, Joe Rogan praised the anti-lockdown pandemic policies of Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis. In June, Rogan endorsed DeSantis for the 2024 presidential election after supporting Bernie Sanders in January 2020.
The Joe Rogan Experience podcast has about 11 million listeners. The comedian’s 2020 licensing deal with Spotify is worth $200 million.
