(DCWatchdog.com) – In a new worrying case of a massive recall of groceries, Costco’s recalls extend nationwide following listeria contamination fears in multiple chicken products.
Costco has issued a widespread recall of several chicken products due to listeria contamination concerns.
Products affected include the Readywise 110 Serving Emergency Protein Bucket and Red’s Southwestern Grill Chicken Mini Burritos.
Supplier alerts highlighted potential contamination risks, leading to this extensive recall.
The recall process began earlier this week when seven production lots of El Monterey Mexican Grill Chicken & Cheese Taquitos were recalled.
On October 11, the initiative expanded to include Rana Chicken Truffle Carbonara and Tagliatelle Grilled White Chicken & Portobello Mushroom Sauce.
Supplier BrucePac’s product distribution prompted these actions, The New York Post reports.
The USDA issued a Class 1 recall classification for BrucePac products involving potential listeria contamination.
This company supplied various chicken products to major retailers: Costco, Target, Trader Joe’s, and Walmart.
Readywise has urged consumers not to consume these recalled products and to return them for full refunds.
“Readywise’s notice said the recall was ‘due to the potential Listeria contamination in the chicken provided by one of our suppliers,’” the report notes.
BrucePac’s products were distributed nationwide, triggering concerns over a potentially massive health issue.
The USDA published a comprehensive document spanning over 326 pages to list affected products.
It’s crucial for consumers to review this document to ensure their safety and avoid consuming contaminated food items.
Listeria infection poses serious risks to vulnerable populations, including older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women.
Symptoms often include fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal symptoms.
For pregnant women, this infection could lead to miscarriages or severe issues for the newborn.
“Listeriosis sufferers may experience symptoms such as “fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms,” the Food Safety and Inspection Service said.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture advises consumers to sanitize surfaces and utensils that contact any recalled products.
