BREAKING: Pelosi Barred From Holy Communion By Catholic Church

U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

( – BREAKING NOW: Just moments ago, word broke that United States House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, has been told by the Catholic Church that she can no longer receive Holy Communion because of her public support and advocacy for abortion.

Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, the Archbishop for San Francisco, says that back in April, he warned Pelosi to either repudiate her advocacy for abortion rights or stop publicly discussing her Catholic faith. Pelosi professes to be a devout Catholic.

Now, Cordileone issued a letter to Pelosi yesterday stating in part:

“As you have not publically repudiated your position on abortion, and continue to refer to your Catholic faith in justifying your position and to receive Holy Communion, that time has now come. Therefore, in light of my responsibility as the Archbishop of San Francisco to be ‘concerned for all the Christian faithful entrusted to [my] care’ (Code of Canon Law, can. 383, §1), by means of this communication I am hereby notifying you that you are not to present yourself for Holy Communion and, should you do so, you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion, until such time as you publically repudiate your advocacy for the legitimacy of abortion and confess and receive absolution of this grave sin in the sacrament of Penance.”

Pelosi has not responded to the Archbishop as of the time of publication of this report.
