Breaking: Did McConnell Just Surrender to Schumer?

( – Having been in Washington, DC for decades and knowing better than most how the political game is played on Capitol Hill, DC Watchdog feels comfortable reporting that, no matter how he tries to spin it (read his tweeted statement further down this page), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican, just surrendered to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, both Democrats, by agreeing to an extension of the federal debt ceiling into December.

And, not only do we feel this is a surrender on the part of McConnell, it’s all but certain that’s how former President Donald J. Trump and his voters and supporters – many of whom don’t like McConnell – will read what McConnell just did. Let’s be honest; it’s not a state secret that ever since January 6th, Trump and McConnell have been arch enemies who despise one another. So, don’t be surprised if a heated rebuke of McConnell is issued by Trump any moment now.

All of the above being true, here’s what neutral, objective, political analysts are saying is the reason that McConnell caved to Schumer and Pelosi and extended the debt ceiling: fear that Democrats would successfully pressure Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) into voting to suspend the filibuster in order to raise the debt ceiling. If that happened, it could very well lead the Democrats to suspend the filibuster on a range of other public policy matters that the GOP believes must be defeated.

So, while this is only a temporary extension, politically, it has significant meaning for both the Republicans and the Democrats.

Here is McConnell’s just tweeted statement:
