(DCWatchdog.com) – Happening Now: Just moments ago at the Pentagon, in a statement seemingly designed to ease the concerns of the American public about American soldiers being sent into combat against Russian troops if Russian President Vladimir Putin sends his military to invade Ukraine, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said that will not happen.
However, at the same time, Kirby said that United States Military Forces would “fight” if Russian troops attacked or threatened NATO allies.
You can watch the video clip further down this post.
According to Kirby, in response to a reporters question about the potential for American troop involvement in Ukraine:
“The President has been very clear; we’re not going to see American troops on the ground in combat with the Russians in Ukraine. He has made clear that that’s not on the table. So what we’re focused on is the very real security commitments that we have – you mentioned under Article 5 [of the NATO Treaty] specifically to our NATO allies. Should Mr. Putin decide to make, or to exhibit threats against the alliance, we want to make sure that he understands unequivocally that that’s not going to be acceptable and the United States will fight to defend our NATO allies and our commitments to our allies on the continent.”
Please watch the video of Kirby below and then share your thoughts and reaction by emailing [email protected]. What do you believe are the odds that United States and Russian troops will engage in war?
