(DCWatchdog.com) – In a bombshell disclosure, Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has revealed that two former Democrats, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Tulsi Gabbard, have been designated as honorary co-chairs of the potential transition team for Trump, should he be victorious in the 2024 election.
A transition team plays a critical role in the United States political system as it ensures a smooth and structured transfer of power.
The team’s responsibilities after the election include the thorough vetting, selection, and official appointment of presidential staff.
Brian Hughes, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, articulated the anticipated value of Kennedy’s and Gabbard’s contributions to the team in a conversation with the New York Times on Tuesday.
“We look forward to having their powerful voices on the team as we work to restore America’s greatness,” he said.
The appointment of Kennedy and Gabbard, both former Democrats, is emblematic of Trump’s broader strategy to foster national unity, positioning it as a counter to the prevailing distrust in mainstream media and conventional political commentary.
The endorsements from Gabbard and Kennedy came within days of each other, with Kennedy announcing his support for Trump on Friday, and Gabbard following suit on Monday.
Gabbard relayed her endorsement through a post on the social media platform X, stating, “I was a Democrat for over 20 years. Today, I endorsed Donald Trump for President.”
Kennedy, elucidating his motives, remarked on Friday, “These are the principal causes that persuaded me to leave the Democratic Party and run as an independent and now to throw my support to President Trump.”
Kennedy also highlighted the personal conflicts arising from his decision.
“This decision is agonizing for me because of the difficulties it causes my wife and my children and my friends,” he said.
He continued, expressing a reconciled inner peace despite external turmoil.
“But, I have the certainty that this is what I’m meant to do. And that certainty gives me internal peace, even in storms,” RFK Jr. concluded.
