(DCWatchdog.com) – Democrat heavyweight and MSNBC host Rev. Al Sharpton has declared that the Democratic Party should “deal with crime” amid all of its talk on democracy and rights ahead of the November 8 midterm elections.
Sharpton, who hosts “PoliticsNation,” made the critical comments on another MSNBC show, “Morning Joe,” whose anchor, Joe Scarborough, wondered why the GOP was more excited about the midterms than the Democrats.
“We’ve got to talk about voting rights, we have to talk about democracy, but we also have to deal with crime, victims,” the Baptist minister said.
“I had people in churches in Atlanta yesterday say to me, ‘I’m so glad that you have a balanced message here because I’m afraid of both.’ I think that a lot of Democrats, are in the leadership are listening to a noise factor of saying ‘don’t do this, don’t do that,’ rather than listening to the voters,” Sharpton elaborated.
“When you see a gap like that in enthusiasm, when you have so much at risk, then you have to stop and say that our messaging is off, and you’ve got to start talking to the people that you want to lead,” he argued further.
In his words, the Democrats would be incapable of leading the people without speaking to them and clearly understanding “what they need leadership for.”
A Fox News report noted that several mainstream media figures “have panicked” ahead of the midterms because polling shows the voters are concentrating on inflation and the state of the US economy rather than Democrat-pushed issues such as abortion, democracy, and voting rights.
Thus, while a recent survey by The New York Times and Siena College found 70% of Americans considered democracy to be “under threat,” only 7% deem that a crucial political issue for the midterm elections.
During an MSNBC appearance, political analyst Michael Steele argued the Democrats needed to “help people understand that without an underlying, functioning democracy, it doesn’t matter what your gas prices are, baby.”
“[The economy] is just not as important as losing your democracy.” insisted MSNBC’s Ali Velshi.
“It’s terrifying how many Americans will choose literal fascism, female serfdom, climate collapse, and the reversal of everything from Social Security & Medicare to student loan relief because they think giving Republicans the power to investigate Hunter Biden will bring down gas prices,” tweeted another MSNBC anchor, Joy Reid.
Another recent public opinion poll discovered that 52% of Americans considered the US democracy “not working well,” while only 10% said it was functioning “extremely well.”
According to the same poll, exactly two-thirds (67%) of American voters are unhappy with the United States’ direction.
