(DCWatchdog.com) – In a move that is all but certain to enrage social conservatives and further divide the United States of America when it comes to abortion, President Joe Biden is giving serious consideration to declaring abortion a public health emergency so that he can take steps as president utilizing emergency powers.
As CNBC reported over the weekend in “Biden says he’s mulling health emergency for abortion access”:
“President Joe Biden said Sunday he is considering declaring a public health emergency to free up federal resources to promote abortion access even though the White House has said it doesn’t seem like ’a great option.’
He also offered a message to people enraged by the Supreme Court’s ruling last month that ended a constitutional right to abortion and who have been demonstrating across the country: ‘Keep protesting. Keep making your point. It’s critically important.’” [emphasis added]
While riding his bike near his home in Delaware, Biden expanded on his thinking during a stop.
“Biden said his administration is trying to do a ‘lot of things to accommodate the rights of women’ after the ruling, including considering declaring a public health emergency to free up federal resources. Such a move has been pushed by advocates, but White House officials have questioned both its legality and effectiveness, and noted it would almost certainly face legal challenges.” [emphasis added]
It is still unclear whether Biden will take the controversial step. But, he is under extreme pressure from pro-abortion advocates to do so as his party seeks to hold its majorities in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate during this November’s midterm elections.
