Biden Attacks Supreme Court

(DCWatchdog.com) – Joe Biden attacked the US Supreme Court on the first anniversary of the Dobbs ruling, which overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision and allowed state abortion bans.

On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court ruling in “Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization” declared that abortion was not a constitutional right and could be restricted.

Since then, some two dozen states have implemented abortion restrictions, most limiting it to the sixth week of pregnancy, The Hill notes in a report.

In his statement on Saturday, Biden decried the Dobbs ruling as a decision with “devastating consequences” because it had created risks for abortion-seeking women.

“States have imposed extreme and dangerous abortion bans that put the health and lives of women in jeopardy, force women to travel hundreds of miles for care, and threaten to criminalize doctors for providing the health care that their patients need and that they are trained to provide,” the president stated.

He argued that state-level abortion bans weren’t the only restrictions since Dobbs as Republicans now sought to ban the chemical abortion pill mifepristone by attacking its 2000 FDA approval, Newsmax reported.

“Their agenda is extreme, dangerous, and out-of-step with the vast majority of Americans. My Administration will continue to protect access to reproductive health care and call on Congress to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade in federal law once and for all,” he said.

In April, a federal judge suspended the FDA’s approval of mifepristone. However, a Biden administration appeal led the US Supreme Court to pause the judge’s order.

On Friday, Biden and his vice president, Kamala Harris, met with abortion activists, promising to boost federal protections for abortion and “reproductive care.”

The president’s Twitter account wrote the only way to stop anti-abortion measures was to elect members of Congress supporting a federal law on the right to abortion.

On Friday, he also signed an executive order on birth control and family planning, ordering the Treasury, Labor, and Health secretaries to develop new policies.

Biden was officially endorsed for reelection by abortion groups Planned Parenthood Action Fund, NARAL Pro-Choice America, and EMILY’s List.
