(DCWatchdog.com) – In a baffling turn of events, an American man lost his life in a tragic bear-hunting accident in Virginia.

Specifically, Lester Clayton Harvey Jr. died after a bear fell on him during a hunting trip.

The incident took place in Lunenburg County, Virginia, a region known for its rich hunting heritage.

Harvey, a 58-year-old resident of Phenix, Virginia, was participating in a bear hunt with his companions when tragedy struck.

According to the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, one of Harvey’s hunting partners shot the bear while it was in the tree.

In a cruel twist of fate, the animal then fell approximately 10 feet, landing on Harvey who was standing nearby.

Despite the immediate efforts of his fellow hunters to provide first aid and contact emergency services, Harvey died of his injuries four days later at VCU Medical Center.

Harvey’s obituary described him as “a friend to all” and “an avid outdoorsman.” He is survived by his wife, three sons, two daughters and eight grandchildren.

Harvey left behind a legacy of family, friendship and a love for the great outdoors.

Although hunting accidents are not uncommon, with around 1,000 firearm-related incidents occurring in the United States each year, this particular tragedy stands out due to its unusual nature.

Notably, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources has not announced any new safety recommendations after this incident.

Harvey’s funeral service was recently scheduled at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, where friends, family, and fellow hunters gathered to honor his memory.
