(DCWatchdog.com) – Former Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput, a prominent Catholic Church prelate, has declared that President Joe Biden should not be given Holy Communion due to his abortion stance.
Biden is not in Communion with the Catholic Church, and any priest who may grant him that would “participate in his hypocrisy,” Chaput said at a Eucharistic symposium in Arlington, Virginia, over the weekend.
The senior prelate served as Archbishop of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from 2011-2020 and the Archbishop of Denver, Colorado, from 1997-2011.
Chaput slammed “Biden’s apostasy,” that is, the abandonment of the church principles on abortion as the most “repugnant example,” demonstrating how the Catholics got culturally assimilated into secular America.
He insisted that the Democrat president ought to suffer “prompt significant public consequences” over his support for abortion, Breitbart News reported.
“When you freely break communion with the Church of Jesus Christ and her teachings, you can’t pretend to be in communion when it’s convenient,” the prelate declared.
“That’s a form of lying. Mr. Biden is not in Communion with the Catholic faith. And any priest who now provides Communion to the president participates in his hypocrisy,” he argued further.
In his speech, Chaput said Catholics in the United States had spent the past 200 years struggling to fit in America’s cultural mainstream.
“We succeeded, but in the process, we’ve been digested and bleached out by the culture rather than leavening it in a fertile way with a distinctive Catholic witness,” Chaput said.
He argued that Biden’s abortionism was “not alone” in demonstrating that, but it was still the most striking example.
“We’ve forgotten who we are as a believing people. This is both a cause and a symptom of today’s lukewarm Catholic spirit in our nation’s culture and within the Church herself. But that can change, and it needs to change, starting with each of us here,” the prelate insisted.
Democrat President Joe Biden, who is only the second Catholic to hold the post after President John F. Kennedy, has declared himself firmly supporting abortion.
What is more, after, in June, the US Supreme Court killed Roe v. Wade and made abortion a state issue, Biden is presently trying to make it, and not inflation, the voters’ primary focus in the 2022 midterm election campaign.
The president recently vowed that if the Democrats hold both chambers of the US Congress, he will pass a federal law guaranteeing “abortion rights” nationwide.
Biden’s stance has shifted after, in the past, he was “personally opposed” to abortion and against funding abortions with taxpayer dollars.
Archbishop Chaput has been consistent in exposing Biden’s pro-abortion stance. During the 2020 presidential campaign, the prelate declared the Democrat had to “stop defining himself as a devout Catholic” because of his abortionism.
