100 Lawmakers Slam Biden

Joe Biden

(DCWatchdog.com) – In a new testimony to the abject failure that is Joe Biden’s policy on vital US ally Israel, more than 100 members of Congress have addressed the president to express their disapproval of the administration’s decision to withhold certain weapons from the Jewish State as it battles the Palestinian Islamist terrorist group Hamas.

The lawmakers, including Democrat US Rep. Jared Golden from Maine, endorsed the letter that criticized the administration’s decision, highlighted during President Biden’s recent CNN interview.

This action followed months of high-profile protests by pro-Palestinian groups urging Biden to reconsider US support for Israel, ultimately leading to restrictions on military aid to Israeli forces, The Daily Caller notes in a report.

“On May 7th, it was reported your White House staff confirmed a pause on 1,800 2,000-pound bombs and 1,700 500-pound bombs that they feared would be used in Israel’s last major planned operation against a Hamas stronghold in the city of Rafah,” the letter reads.

“This move is part of a pattern of your administration hindering arms sales to our allies without sufficient explanation or strategic foresight,” it adds.

The lawmakers argued that such delays compromise both the defense industrial base and national security, stressing the importance for allies to depend on US manufacturing for their defense needs.

“The world is watching your administration’s unique scrutiny of Israel when it comes to weapons shipments and foreign policy decisions more broadly, and the rest of the world now believes that with enough contrived public scrutiny, the US will fail our allies,” they noted.

According to CNN, the Biden administration has temporarily halted shipments of specific ammunition and bombs, and is also evaluating whether to proceed with transfers of other equipment, such as Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) systems.

This pause is significant, as it coincides with crucial developments in the Israel-Hamas conflict, which escalated following the October 7 terrorist attack, in which Hamas massacred over 1,400 Israelis.

Rafah is reportedly the last significant Hamas stronghold in the Gaza Strip, as per The Associated Press.

Critics like Republican Senator JD Vance of Ohio have argued that it is strategically unsound to penalize Israel by withholding access to more precise and sophisticated weaponry, especially when the purported reason is excessive civilian casualties.

The letter concludes with a demand for President Biden to clarify his reasons for suspending weapon shipments to an ally engaged in conflict with a terrorist organization and to outline the decision-making timeline regarding the cessation of the pause.
